NWS is committed to the holistic development of each student. To that end, the School aims to develop a curious mind to question, explore, discover, evaluate, analyse, synthesise and reflect, enabling each student to consistently make their best better in order to achieve the highest academic standards of which they are capable.

Students’ physical, social, emotional, moral and creative development is also at the heart of the NWS learning experience. Students are constantly given opportunities to develop their talents to the full and to excel. Opportunities to show leadership and to become globally aware young people are also central to the enriching and motivating learning experience to be enjoyed.

I would like to share with you that research shows that intelligence can be developed. Students are more likely to develop their full potential particularly if they have a ‘growth mindset.’ This means that they demonstrate a desire to learn, have a tendency to embrace challenges, are persistent in the face of setbacks, seeing effort as the path to mastery and learn from feedback.

Especially for our students, I encourage everyone to read, the value of which is demonstrated in both of these quotations:

‘The more that you read, the more things that you will know.

The more that you learn, the more places that you will go.’

and

‘Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.’

I have also some learning tips for you if you get stuck with an aspect of your learning; these are things that you could do before you ask a teacher: reread the question, ask yourself what do I already know that could help me,  ask a friend, use a reference book, use a dictionary, check the internet, share the problem with a family member, go to another question and come back to the part that you are stuck on later.

I firmly believe that it is very important that we work together in partnership – the School, the parents the students and all stakeholders - to fulfil our mission “striving for excellence today, to prepare students to succeed in the challenges they face tomorrow.” I welcome your suggestions and feedback at all points of time and look forward to a new academic year, full of new learning and achievement for all of us.

KEY ACADEMIC AREAS

Curricular Structure

Our curriculum is truly progressive & learner-friendly. The School provides a comprehensive academic curriculum supported by a system of instructions that encourages children to be logical, analytical, creative & communicative. We ensure overall development of children which does not depend on rote method and where the classroom teaching is flexible and integrated to the syllabus.

School Curriculum

The school follows approved courses of studies from Pre-Primary up to class XII. The curriculum is well planned, graded & innovative based on CBSE  guidelines.

Study Material

We follow the books prescribed by CBSE. Clear cut objective to prescribe these books is to maintain the universality by the students of our schools with the students beyond. The syllabus is enriched by well-structured lesson plans, teacher designed worksheets and lesson specific activities ensuring that the students are equipped with knowledge, skills and values.

Integration of Technology

Teaching- learning at the school is supported by the latest multimedia technology. Most subjects are integrated with technology and teachers use online videos and links to either explain a concept or evaluate understanding of the students.

Web based assignments are part of regular academic activity. All Classrooms are equipped with Interactive White Boards and Digital Content is mapped to the curriculum to enhance the Teaching-Learning experience for students across grades.

Student Evaluation

It is continuous and comprehensive. It is based on the belief that learning takes place all the time, within and outside the classroom. It recognises an ability to regulate oneself, exhibiting creativity, courage to initiate and attempts to better ones performance.

Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation(CCE) caters to different learning styles and acknowledges different intelligences while aiming at assessing the holistic individual. CCE aims at assessing the concept and content, attitude, skills, leadership and capacity to innovate. Such comprehensive evaluation demands appropriate tools to assess, document and provide necessary evidence to show the growth of a student.

Our assessment scheme is a combination of formal testing and observation of all formal and informal engagements of children in and out of school. Several criteria are adopted in assessing children at different levels. The formal assessment has certain mandatory items of assessment for children.

They are: Class Tests |Formative assessments | summative assessments |Unit Tests| Half Yearly Examination |Annual Examination | Project Work | Collaborative activities | Hands on Activities | Class participation | Presentations | Problem Solving Assignments

A Grading System is followed till Class X. This ensures a conducive learning environment, devoid of stressful competition. This also helps facilitate learning at the individual's pace. Assessment from Class IX onwards is focused on preparing students to excel in the examination pattern referred by the C.B.S.E.

Informal Assessments include: Observations |worksheets |oral questions

Teaching Methodology

Teaching at Nehru World School aims at concept and skill development rather than mere acquisition of knowledge. Our system makes the student central to the learning structure and is supported by teachers and a strong peer group. In this scheme of things, enquiry based learning is the main goal wherein students discover concepts, explore them and apply them in the real world. Listening, Communication and Presentation skills are developed among students to ensure holistic learning. Our methodologies include inspiring a competitive and challenging environment for youngsters, with a supportive base. Be it Science, Mathematics, Humanities or Languages, the spirit of enquiry and zest for knowledge are evident from the way students deal with classroom activities.

Learning in Multiple Ways

Learning is a lifelong process and all individuals have the ability to learn. As children learn in different ways, we provide a variety of teaching strategies, meaningful materials, and emerging technologies to nurture the love of learning in every student, maximize student potential and suit individual learning styles.

Learning Life skills and Values

We promote character evolution and holistic development through our emphasis on inculcation of values. This is not done through a fixed curriculum but rather through positive role modelling.

Taking and Using Feedback

A unique feature of the NWS teaching learning methodology is the system of taking feedback from the parents and children about what they are learning and how they are learning. Students' feedback is sought twice a year, and basis their likes, dislikes, needs and interests, teachers plan their lessons, activities and assessments practices. This is a small step in ensuring that we at NWS, put the child at the centre of all planning and programs.

Sky Field

The rooftop playground space of 12000 sq. ft. called the ‘sky field’ is a new concept in urban sports education. Built upon one of the school buildings, it utilises the earlier unused roof top of the school. It was conceptualized in 2008 and took over a year since commissioning to complete. The green Poly-Grass for this surface was made in Denmark and it was woven in China. It travelled over 35000 km. to reach the school and a special fitter from the Olympics fitment team in China was called to commission this field. This is the first surface of its kind on any school's roof in India.

The NWS Sky field has been designed keeping in mind Physical Education Curriculum (PEC), a joint initiative of CBSE and British Council for Primary Classes. Students can play Football, Net Ball, Soft Ball, Cricket, Four-Square and Hop Scotch alongside several other new games, introduced to focus on developing Gross Motor Skills like balancing, body coordination and agility.

“Excellent school with great parent communication. Both my kids study here, I would definitely recommend this school. The teaching is outstanding.”

Tarun Arora

“...The variety of learning experiences available is amazing. The thoughtful curriculum is perfect for a bright, curious child like ours. Yet, the best part of the school is definitely its staff which is caring and kind towards every child and parent, and the warmth can be felt the very moment you walk inside the glass doors and interact with just anyone from top to bottom. The school definitely goes out of its way to help out the parents and the child. Glad to be here.”

“...The way the teachers, the coordinators and other staff members attend the child, the parents and the countless queries is really praiseworthy and unforgettable. The curricular and co-curricular activities at the school are systematic, complete and impeccable.”

ADMISSIONS

The Process

Admission to classes at NWS is dependent upon the availability of seats and the capability of the individual applicant as demonstrated during the admission test and the formal interview.

In assessing the suitability of a candidate, our admission staff reviews each applicant's complete application. The applicant's prospects for success are evaluated thoroughly by at least three experienced staff members working independently of the other. This reliable and responsive process has, over the years, enabled us to know a great deal about our students before they enrol, which facilitates our planning for their future integration into the School community. We follow a three-step system to grant admissions:

Step 1: Get a prospectus and application package from the School or Online (Costing ₹ 1500)

Step 2: Submit a Hard copy of the form along with the required documents to the school

Step 2: The applicant appears for a test (wherever applicable) and personal interview (along with parents) with the Admissions Board

Step 3: If admission is granted, submit fees and required documents at the specified date
