Seminar on Disaster Management

‘A Disaster Management’ seminar was conducted on 28th April’16 at Nehru World School, Ghaziabad. The Seminar was initiated by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) with the knowledge partner Global Academy of Public Safety & Habitat Management (GAPSHAM) New Delhi. Mr. P.K. Shrivastava (Commandant, NDRF), Mr. Ravinder Singh (Asst. Commandant, NDRF), Mr. Saurabh Gautam (CEO, GAPSHAM), Mr. Anurag Bajpayee and Ms. Heena Khana (Head Project Development) were the esteemed guest of the event.70 School Principals, Directors and Heads from about 45 Schools of Delhi and NCR attended the seminar. Seminar focused on Why, What & How of emergency (disaster) management and risk reduction in schools.

Some salient features of the seminar were:

  • Raising disaster awareness

  • Hazard, vulnerability and risk analysis

  • Structural and non-structural safety

  • Facilities and Resource Mapping

  • Constitution and training of School Disaster

  • Management Committee and Task Forces

  • Alert mechanisms

  • School maps, evacuation plans and calendar of preparedness activities

  • Mock drills

  • Psycho-social support for children in disaster

  • Consideration of disability and gender-based needs

  • Periodical review and audit of School Disaster Management Plan
